“I.O.U.” is another work that was highly emotionally charged, in this piece I processed and expressed traumatic childhood memories. The feeling of growing up in a home where I did not feel safe nor protected. As I got older I had to make hard decisions about continuing to have a relationship with the family member who harmed me. I was revived by this work, in unburdening myself of this deep and heavy burden, I can live more fully in my present life as I am no longer a child, I am no longer under that roof. After making this art, I felt empowered that I do not have to be a victim or feel afraid, because I am in control of my choices and my life now as an adult.
