“In order to increase productivity factory farms commonly manipulate food and light. Egg farmers do this to reboot bird’s internal clocks so they start laying eggs faster and at the same time.
They leave the lights off a bit, giving them enough sleep for them to survive. Of course chickens will go crazy if forced to live in such unnatural conditions for long - the lighting and crowding, the burdens of their grotesque bodies (as double the size a chicken of 1930 used to have). That’s why it’s cheaper to kill them and start all over again after a year.”
