I was sewing at my immigrant grandmother’s knee as soon as I could hold a needle! She was an incredible seamstress who taught me the love of fabric and sewing along with the work ethic to do every job well. As I progressed from helping her and also making doll clothes, I began to sew for myself. As a Fine Arts Major at Northern Illinois University, I studied under another amazing woman from Pakistan and learned to weave. Ah, the love affair of creating my own fabrics and then sewing original garments began!
More recently, I learned how to create fabric using the nuno technique of adhering beautiful wool fibers onto silk. My latest work combines lovely hand dyed and shibori dyed silk with wools, other natural fibers, hand spun yarns and embellishments to create one of a kind woman’s wear and unique accessories.
My work is as special as the woman who chooses to wear them. The pieces are art wear and yet truly wearable for day to day and special occasions. Easy to care for clothing that will turn heads in admiration!
